When it comes to my yoga practice, one of my favorite areas to stretch out are my HIPS. Before starting yoga, I never realized how much stress and tension can build up in your hip area. I love to do a good 20-30 minute workout then also specifically focus on stretching out the hip and hamstring areas. It’s like a breath of fresh air and a much needed release from the stress of the day. Here are 7 of my favorite hip opening yoga poses!
My love for and journey into yoga was primarily sparked by Instagram. I started following so many yoga accounts to keep myself inspired to practice and learn more. What really intrigued me most at first (besides splits) was nailing Headstand. Ahh the illusive headstand. I think as a child I played around with doing headstands but never really held one or knew how to properly do so. To my surprise, I found headstand to be relatively easy. Of course it got easier over time as I realized what worked best for me and was better for my body. With that said, if you do try this- please consult with a doctor or try at your own risk. I personally have never had any serious injury while attempting to do headstand, but that doesn’t mean others haven’t.

When I first started yoga, one of my favorite and most challenging pose to learn was crow pose. I found it interesting that one teacher could explain how to do it and I’d struggle. But as soon as another teacher taught me their way, I instantly was able to grasp the concept and balance. I find this is the case with many things in yoga so I figured I would share how I learned crow but also include a video or two of how some other yoga instructors may teach it. When headed to a yoga class for the first time, some of the terms can be confusing or foreign. Depending on the teacher they may use Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language, to describe poses. OR they may use other terms for poses. Here are a few that I’ve heard most often in the classes I have attended, it is a mix of part Sanskrit and other more simplified terms. The more you attend classes, the more you will become familiar with them so do not fret if you don’t know them!
