Over the past few years I have slowly gotten interested in yoga. Something I always thought was amazing but for some reason never saw myself being able to achieve any of the poses I was seeing on the internet or instagram. But instagram and youtube have me so excited on what I can one day achieve. Being able to see other people, who were beginners at first, doing amazing poses, being so flexible and strong. It’s so inspiring to me. I guess when you see their awesome advanced poses and pictures, you don’t necessarily think of all the work that was put in to them accomplishing it. And at one point, they too were beginners.
I first started my interest in yoga with a series called 10 minute solutions that used to be on Netflix. I got to where I was doing the videos almost every morning, then I took a break from it. When I came back to do it again Netflix had taken it off! I was so bummed, so I googled it and found it on DVD! I was so excited to find it for only $8.00. I started doing it again and then slacked off again(typical me). I’ve never been one to really stick to a work out routine. Until recently that is.
Starting in February I found a youtube channel called Lionsgate BeFit. I started looking through their channel and was stoked to see sooooo many different kinds of work out videos with different levels. I started with the 30 day butt lift. That series of videos has a few 10 minute videos within that you can do on their own. So I started waking up and doing at least 10 minutes in the morning. Flexibility was something else I was also interested, mainly being able to do splits. I was a cheerleader since I was a little girl up through middle school and was never able to achieve doing a split. Luckily for me splits are also a part of yoga! Now I am set on stretching everyday to work on that goal, not that it’s a health issue or anything, it’s just something I always was interested in being able to do. I did realize after stopping being active and cheerleading that I felt much better in general when I was more active and flexible.
After a few days of doing a few stretching videos and my butt lift workouts, I found another series called Bikini Body Mobile workouts (yoga and pilates inspired workouts). This series also had a few videos all with different lengths and workouts. I decided I would work one of these videos with at least a 20 minute length in at the end of the day after work. So basically for the month of February, I stretched and did a 10 minute workout in the morning. At the end of the day I would do a 20 or 30 minute workout and then a stretching video. In March I changed it up a little and stopped the morning workout but added more to my after work routine. Now I do a 20 minute workout video, along with about 15-20 minutes of stretching, and 10+ minutes of trying new yoga poses! It’s been so fun actually! I thought I would give up like I normally do. But when I started in February I told myself I would give it a good shot for at least two weeks, since that’s about how long it takes to start a new habit. And to my surprise I saw progress in my splits, I felt better about myself, I felt healthier. So I continued and am still excited to get home and work out most nights. I will admit there were days where working out was the last thing I wanted to do, but I would force myself to do at least 10-20 minutes.
So here I am 2 months later still going and I have seen significant improvement in my splits. I feel stronger and healthier. I’ve also learned how to do a headstand again, slowly working on handstands. I feel so great! Working out and stretching has really changed my body and attitude as well! It’s been such a positive experience, especially being able to see my progress. It’s just pushing me to keep going!
Never knew I could do this! It was easier than I thought!
Go try something new! If there is something you want to try and do more often, give it at least a good 2 weeks before you quit!
